Arūnas Molis – the new head of KN Klaipėda LNG

2019-01-02 Company news

Arūnas Molis today joins the team of KN, the operator of liquefied natural gas (LNG) and oil terminals, in the position of Director of Klaipėda LNG. Mr. Molis competed with almost 40 candidates in the selection announced by KN.

“The state, being the main shareholder of KN, sets very ambitious goals for Klaipėda LNG terminal. The terminal must not only further ensure Lithuania’s energy security, but together with the LNG reloading station and the bunker vessel also create added economic value to gas consumers and the company’s shareholders. I welcome Arūnas’ decision to join our team. I believe that his knowledge and expertise in energy, as well as strategic knowledge of the regional energy context and a wide network of institutional contacts will be particularly useful for the implementation of the Seimas’ decision regarding acquisition of an LNG-FSRU vessel and for the establishment of Lithuania’s leadership in the regional gas market,” highlighted KN CEO Mindaugas Jusius.

Mr. Molis has been the Adviser to the President on energy and transport issues for the last four years. Previously, he has contributed to the establishment and functioning of the NATO Energy Security Centre of Excellence, has been the manager of the Strategic Analysis and Research Division of this institution, and has worked for the Baltic Defence College in Tartu. Mr. Molis has been currently lecturing at Vytautas Magnus University in Kaunas and the University of Bologna.

“The Lithuanian energy sector is presently one of the most dynamic ones, with successful implementation of strategic projects contributing to long-term development of the country. Klaipėda LNG terminal is one of such projects. After the state expressed its ambition to have a long-term solution regarding LNG supply to Lithuania, a possibility emerged to maximise the potential of the LNG terminal not only in Lithuania, but also at the regional level. It is an inspiring outlook both professionally and for a citizen who cares, which encouraged me to join the KN team,” said Arūnas Molis, the new Director of KN Klaipėda LNG.

There are currently two services at KN that function in relation to LNG activities. Klaipėda LNG Service, managed by Mr. Molis, is responsible for the operation of the LNG terminal, reduction of costs of Klaipėda terminal, practical implementation of the project of acquisition of the FSRU vessel, maximisation of the potential of the LNG terminal in the region and LNG export, as well as bunkering and related issues.

LNG Business Development Service, managed by Tadas Matulionis and established last December, is in charge of the international LNG projects and the strategic goal of KN to become established as a global LNG player.
