A career where independence engineers grow

The energy sector is traditionally considered a male-dominated field. Nevertheless, the positions held by women in the energy sector are strong. The women working at KN Energies impress me with their charm, optimism, self-confidence, determination, knowledge, and ability to balance career, family, and motherhood.

Recent years and new KN Energies projects in Europe have shown that our path toward energy independence began at the right time, and that the experience we gained helps other countries move toward energy independence as well. KN Energies contributes by operating four terminals in Germany, carrying out activities in Brazil, and providing consultancy services in European countries – Italy, Croatia, and others. Russia’s war in Ukraine has forced countries to seek new sources of energy imports, and we directly contribute to achieving these goals.

We have an approved strategy and clearly defined short-term and long-term goals for its implementation, and I believe we will succeed. It does sound ambitious, but in the context of rapidly accelerating climate change, we must move toward this goal systematically – and that is exactly what we are doing. A long journey lies ahead, requiring investments in environmental measures for existing infrastructure and the collective effort of everyone involved, because we can only achieve this together as a team. This is our ambition – one that we must believe in and pursue consistently.

With the start of LNG terminal operations, I had to learn many new things. I continue to grow, because at KN Energies every year brings something new to master. The company constantly introduces innovations, which allows us to gain fresh knowledge. Working at KN, I grow not only professionally but also as a person. I feel a constant need to learn something new and avoid getting stuck in routine. Being part of KN, I feel the purpose of my work every day. Without that sense of purpose, I would probably choose a different kind of job.

KN Energies is a key player not only in Lithuania’s but also in the region’s energy infrastructure. While priority projects are currently being developed, the company continuously monitors technological and market developments, meaning that the future may reveal new opportunities for Lithuania and the wider region. We are preparing for and eagerly anticipating the upcoming energy transformation.

I believe that every KN Energies employee contributes through daily work to building energy independence, and we also promote the company’s and the country’s name abroad. The work we do is linked to energy reliability and trust in the energy sector. Now KN Energies is also the owner of the floating storage unit Independence. I watched the handover of this ship to Lithuania and the raising of the national flag – I got chills. I was proud that, even in a small way, I am part of this history.

The lessons learned and challenges faced while implementing the LNG terminal project in Lithuania are extremely valuable when sharing experience and knowledge with partners abroad. Lithuania has already travelled a path that many other countries are only beginning – we can demonstrate how to implement projects that ensure energy supply security and independence. By launching commercial and technical LNG terminal operations in foreign markets, KN Energies has not only strengthened its position as an international energy company, but has also contributed to other countries’ efforts to move toward energy independence.

The uninterrupted operation of KN Energies’ liquid energy products terminals and LNG terminals is a strong result of teamwork, technical maintenance, and good decision-making, directly contributing to strengthening Lithuania’s energy security and independence. The Klaipėda LNG terminal and the liquid energy products terminals ensure smooth product supply and storage, helping to achieve energy independence. I never thought I would be part of such a large company implementing important projects for the country’s overall energy independence.

I can say with confidence that I feel proud that we have the opportunity to contribute to an asset of strategic importance for Lithuania. I feel like an important employee of the company, directly contributing to energy independence. This motivates me to do my job as well as possible. I care that we remain strategically strong and that mistakes do not occur in our operations. That is why we strive for the best results.

KN is a great school for everything — both professional and soft skills: collaboration, prioritisation, and time management. In today’s rapidly changing world, the ability to find answers is almost as important as experience and knowledge themselves. That’s why I’m truly grateful to my colleagues in the department, who were always willing to help me while I was working remotely.

international companies, horizontal careers are very popular – employees move to new roles every few years. It’s great that this is gradually becoming more common in Lithuania as well, because when you change positions within a company, each time it feels like starting a new job. The energy sector in Lithuania is fairly narrow – there aren’t many companies where you can work – so changing roles within the same company is an excellent solution if you want change, dynamics, and the feeling that you’ve switched jobs. A horizontal career definitely ensures development, the acquisition of new skills, provides new challenges, and opens interesting opportunities for self-realisation.

KN Energies gave me the opportunity to try myself in several positions, so I definitely see internal career opportunities. On the other hand, it isn’t easy to decide to change roles, but when circumstances are favourable, I am always in favour of trying rather than later sighing that you didn’t try – carpe diem – and in a way, that is my engine.

The nature of our work is such that many specifics can only be learned by doing. That’s why career growth would be impossible without colleagues and managers who share their experience, teach, and provide guidance.

The biggest change and at the same time the greatest challenge was participation in the LNG terminal project, where I had to familiarise myself with a large amount of new information, analyse and apply the latest global technologies to the LNG terminal project, make important decisions, and at the same time do a great deal of ‘homework’. To achieve these goals, I had to sacrifice part of my free time. However, it is all compensated by the fact that the company gave me every opportunity to develop, grow, and realise myself as a specialist.

I am inspired by stories where people achieve goals that seem impossible to them. I believe that everything is possible in life and there are no walls anywhere. We create walls ourselves by doubting our abilities, but you have to overcome that. It doesn’t matter what happened yesterday – what matters is what will happen tomorrow.

We are among the most prominent ambassadors of energy independence. It may sound grand, but that is truly how I feel. From Independence — the symbol of our energy freedom — to Subačius, where the national reserve is stored, the importance of our organisation is exceptional.
