On the 11th of December SC “Klaipedos Nafta” and partners – academic and business organizations – have signed a letter of intent regarding liquefied natural gas (LNG) cluster development. The main purpose of this cluster is close cooperation for better exploitation of LNG economic potential, common development of LNG related scientific research, the development of training and study programs and LNG specialists at Klaipeda University.

 

The Minster of Energy Rokas Masiulis and the Minister of Education and Science Audrone Pitreniene were the main initiators of the letter of intent and created cluster between four organizations: SC “Klaipedos Nafta” – the company that implemented LNG terminal project and now is the operator of the terminal, the engineering industry group SC “Western Shipyard”, the University of Klaipeda and Klaipeda Science and Technology park.
 
 
SC “Klaipedos Nafta” and SC “Western Shipyard” are one of the biggest tax payers in the country and one of the largest employers in the western region of Lithuania.
 
 
According to CEO of SC “Klaipedos Nafta” Mantas Bartuška, the launch of the LNG terminal and the projected start of LNG reloading station exploitation from 2017, creates wide science and business partnership opportunities that enhance regional maritime LNG business.
 
 
"Our company is looking for various opportunities to optimize and make more efficient use of already operated LNG facilities and create a new ones, thus opening up prospects, in particular, to Klaipeda, Lithuania and LNG market of the Baltic region. Our goal is to ensure that the quadripartite cooperation in the fields of energy, education, science and business increase the scientific-technological-economic competitiveness of the country and encourage the LNG business and investments, "- said CEO of SC “Klaipedos Nafta” after signing letter of intent.
 
 
The State owns 72,32 percent of SC “Klaipedos Nafta” shares.
