2016-11-16 Company news

Oil and LNG terminal operator Klaipedos Nafta, AB and the Norwegian company Kongsberg Maritime AS have signed a memorandum of understanding regarding cooperation and concentration of expertise in the field of LNG terminals.

Cooperation has been established when Klaipedos Nafta, AB was still building the liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal and starting to develop the LNG market in the region. The company also builds a small scale LNG terminal and has accumulated unique experience, knowledge and competence in the field of LNG. Kongsberg Maritime AS is the largest manufacturer of Integrated Automation and Measurement control systems for LNG carriers, including vessels with regasification facilities.

This company belongs to Kongsberg Gruppen, an international technology corporation, which offers reliable and advanced technological solutions to enhance security, safety and efficiency of sophisticated operations under extreme conditions.

“Norway has accumulated a long experience in the domain of LNG, and we have used it in Lithuania: the Norwegian company Hoegh LNG is the provider of the FSRU Independence, and the regasification and loading processes are controlled through the systems developed by Kongsberg. Its solutions have been implemented in the main Automation control system. Having evaluated the fact that we have been successfully operating the terminal for two years already, have accumulated considerable experience and have been expanding into the international LNG market, it is appropriate and mutually beneficial to establish wider cooperation with market experts,” says Mantas Bartuška, CEO of Klaipedos Nafta, AB.

The companies have agreed to cooperate in the following fields: FSRU operations; LNG terminal technologies and systems; FSRU simulation models and scenarios (maintenance operations and cost optimisation); simulators as the design and planning tools; small scale LNG bunkering operations and international LNG terminal projects.

“Klaipedos Nafta has proven its capability and performance regarding LNG Terminal development, execution and Operation. Kongsberg Maritime is proud to take part of the future LNG development and to support with our long experience and knowledge in the LNG business. Integrated Lifecycle Simulation and Performance Optimization together with our fully integrated LNG crew trainer solutions will be part of this. We look forward to develop our LNG regas and LNG bunker solutions together with Klaipedos Nafta“, – says Cato Franck, Vice President LNG & Offshore Production units at Kongsberg Maritime.
