The only small-scale LNG import terminal in the Baltic States and Poland

Services provided at the Klaipėda LNG reloading station

Klaipėda LNG reloading station is the only small-scale LNG import terminal in the Baltic States and Poland, operating 24/7 and ensuring fast operations – loading LNG trucks and issuing the required documents takes up to 90 minutes.

Customers are provided with a free vessel compatibility check, as well as LNG truck and driver compatibility verification and approval. In addition, boil-off gas is used for KN Energies’ internal needs, and terminal users are compensated for its utilisation.

Services provided at the Klaipėda LNG reloading station:

  • LNG loading to LNG trucks or ISO containers;
  • LNG loading to LNG carriers to transport LNG as cargo;
  • Bunkering of LNG-powered vessels.

How to Become a User of the Reloading Station

As of 1 April 2025, the sole user of the Klaipėda LNG reloading station is Orlen S.A., which has reserved the station’s capacities for a five-year period until 31 March 2030.

Technical Characteristics of the LNG Reloading Station

The infrastructure of the Klaipėda LNG reloading station consists of five onshore LNG storage tanks, a jetty fully equipped for LNG loading and reloading, LNG truck loading bays, and an LNG regasification unit for gas supply to the boiler house of the Klaipėda liquid energy products terminal.

The Klaipėda LNG reloading station is located in the Klaipėda State Seaport, within the territory of the Klaipėda liquid energy products terminal, near the entrance to the seaport (Berth No. 2).

The geographical location of the Klaipėda LNG reloading station is 55°43’34.986” north latitude and 21°5’52.486” east longitude.

Modern technical solutions applied at the Klaipėda LNG reloading station ensure high operational efficiency. Loading an LNG truck and issuing the required documents takes only about 90 minutes.

LNG carrier and LNG-powered vessel approval procedure

A compatibility analysis is carried out for each LNG carrier delivering LNG and for each LNG-powered vessel bunkered at the LNG reloading station.

To initiate the compatibility analysis procedure for an LNG carrier or an LNG-powered vessel, a completed request form must be submitted to the following email addresses: lng.reloading@kn.lt
and LNGcommerce@kn.lt.

LNG carrier and LNG-powered vessel approval process

  • Request. A request must be submitted no later than 60 calendar days before the vessel’s arrival at the reloading station.
  • Analysis. Once the request is accepted by the station operator, a compatibility analysis is carried out within 5 business days.
  • First arrival. After the analysis is completed, the vessel is registered for an LNG loading or reloading test and must arrive within 6 months.
  • Final approval. Following a successful LNG loading or reloading test and compliance with other reloading station criteria, the vessel is approved for a period of 2 years.

LNG truck and driver approval procedure

Drivers and LNG trucks arriving at the Klaipėda LNG reloading station must be approved by the station operator in accordance with the LNG truck and driver approval procedure.

To obtain approval for an LNG truck or driver, a completed request form must be submitted to the following email addresses: lng.reloading@kn.lt

Requests must be submitted no later than:

  • 5 business days before the arrival of the LNG truck;
  • 2 business days before the arrival of the driver.

LNG truck and driver approval process

  • Request. The driver’s request for approval must be submitted no later than 2 business days before the arrival of the LNG truck.
  • Assessment and approval. The compliance assessment of the LNG truck takes up to 3 business days. If no deficiencies are identified, approval confirming the truck’s compatibility with the reloading station is granted.
  • First arrival. Upon the first visit to the reloading station, the driver must complete a safety and health briefing (available online at https://kn.safetybriefing.lt) and collect a personal access permit at the permit office.
  • Final approval. After the first loading operation, final confirmation is issued stating that the LNG truck and driver are authorised to perform loading operations at the LNG reloading station.

Requirements for LNG trucks

LNG Truck loading at the Klaipėda LNG Reloading Station is performed via Manntek dry-couplings, which save time for the connection and disconnection of the couplings. If an LNG truck is not equipped with a Manntek dry coupling, it can be borrowed from the Klaipėda LNG reloading station‘s operator. The following Manntek dry couplings are available from the operator:

  • Liquids – 2 ½”, external, flange DN65 PN25/40
  • Gas – 2“, external, flange DN40 PN10/16
  • Gas – 2“, external, flange DN65 PN10/16

The driver of the LNG truck shall have the requisite gaskets and tools and must perform the connection/disconnection himself.
